When You Need More Than a Quick Encouragement
Sometimes you don’t need another inspirational quote.
You need somewhere to sit with what you’re actually feeling.
You need space to admit, “I’m anxious.”
“I don’t know what God is doing.”
“I know what I believe, but I’m having a hard time believing it right now.”
Or even:
“I don’t really know what I need. I just know I’m tired.”
One of the reasons I created Volarán Wellness was because I believe our emotional and spiritual lives don’t have to exist in separate boxes.
Sometimes caring for ourselves looks like therapy.
Sometimes it looks like opening Scripture.
Sometimes it looks like slowing down long enough to notice what has been happening internally.
And sometimes it starts with a blank page.
Creating space for honest prayer
Anxiety has a way of making our minds incredibly loud.
We rehearse conversations that haven’t happened.
We imagine outcomes we can’t control.
We search for certainty.
And even when we know Scripture, anxiety can make familiar truths feel much harder to hold onto.
That tension became part of the heart behind God, I’m Worried, the first devotional journal in the Honest Prayers series.
I didn’t want to create something that simply told anxious people to “trust God more.”
I wanted to create space for honesty.
Space to acknowledge the fear.
Space to explore what Scripture actually says.
Space to reflect on what is happening emotionally.
And space to bring all of it before God without pretending we have everything figured out.
Faith and emotional wellness can exist in the same conversation.
For some people, there can be pressure to choose between spiritual practices and emotional tools.
But prayer doesn’t require us to ignore our emotions.
And understanding our emotions doesn’t require us to abandon our faith.
Throughout Scripture, we see people grieving, questioning, fearing, lamenting, hoping, remembering, and returning to what they know about God.
That honesty matters.
The goal isn’t to never feel anxious.
It’s learning what we can do when anxiety shows up.
That might include prayer and Scripture.
It might include grounding techniques, challenging anxious thoughts, journaling, talking with someone you trust, or seeking professional support.
Often, it can include several of those things together.
Sometimes a blank page is enough.
Not every season requires a structured devotional.
That’s also why I wanted the Volarán collection to include simple blank journals.
A journal can become whatever you need it to be.
A place for prayers.
A place to process therapy sessions.
A gratitude journal.
A place to write down Scriptures you want to remember.
A brain dump when your thoughts feel scattered.
Or simply somewhere to be honest when you’re not ready to say something out loud yet.
There doesn’t have to be a perfect journaling routine.
You don’t have to write every day.
You don’t have to make every entry profound.
The page is simply an invitation to slow down and pay attention.
A simple reflection to begin
If you have a journal nearby, take a few minutes today and finish these three sentences:
Right now, I feel…
What has been taking up the most space in my mind is…
God, what I honestly want to tell You is…
Don’t edit your answer.
Don’t try to make it sound spiritual enough.
Just start there.
Because sometimes growth begins with giving ourselves permission to be honest about where we actually are.
Resources created for the journey
